134

did I mention how much I love coffee? yay for 134!

A little update on all the things going on in my life outside of the teacher & food...

I have a meeting with an academic advisor next Thursday to start planning my return to college! I originally earned a degree in Sociology, so it should only take 2 years to earn a second degree. Right now I'm still thinking about going back for Nursing, but I'm starting to lean towards getting a Masters in Chemistry instead (that's the reason for the advisor meeting, to see if I am eligible to apply to the program). I've always loved Chemistry so I'm going to try to set up a few interviews or shadowing days where I can see what a chemist does on a daily basis. Who knew at 27 I'd still have no clue what I want to be when I grow up?

Also, I'm starting to pick up some part time jobs to help save some extra $ and to have them lined up for when my day job goes out of business or when I start school; whichever comes first. Last night was my first bartending shift in 5 years, it was awkward, but fun. The change of setting was really nice.

I love that right now I have so many things to look forward to and be hopeful about, like school, new jobs, weekends away, great sex, the scale dipping below 130...

We have loads of chemists where I work. The bachelor degree straight out of college associate chemists make ~$25 an hour. The Chemists with more experience are on salary, not sure where that lands them, but I would guess ~70K a year. I work for a nutrition company. They do all sorts of chemical tests on various powders to check potency and what not. They also check our tablets to make sure that the components come out in the right levels. Seems like a cool job to me!
Good luck.

How versatile your intelligence must be.

I live in the city where Proctor & Gamble is based, so almost everyone locally who went into chemistry or biology now work developing personal care products like shampoo or industrial cleansers.

I am 28 & graduated (Bachelors in psych, minor was sociology) late April '09 & still have no idea exactly what I want to do, which is part of the reason I am putting off grad school. I hafta say, it's nice seeing I'm not the only one as most people I know do know what they want to do or are doing it, lol.

I love love love coffee too :)

I think it's really great that you're going back to school. My dad is finishing his BS right now and he is in his 60s! It's never too late.

You're right, you do have a lot of things to look forward to! <3

I'm not sure anyone ever really knows what they want to be when they grow up. I know so many people who've done a complete career change when they hit their mid-life crises.

Chemistry sounds good. But you're nuts!! Haha, I just barely scraped by with D in chemistry when I was in high school. And I think that was only because the teacher hated me and didn't want me in her class again....

Have a good weekend, hun!

Wow good for you on going back to school, though it seems like such a jump from a soc degre to chemisty! I have a BA in soc as well.

It's nice to hear you have a lot of things to look forward to :)
